hi all! spent yesterday afternoon carving my first stamp for my
upcoming letterbox. i used a wood block from an old store bought
stamp as the new stamps backing and was trying to figure out the
right type of glue to use to stick them together. any suggestions
would be gratefully recieved. thanks in advance!! joie

Joie,

Double sided sticky tape works best in my opinion. It comes in many different sizes and thickness. I tried using contact cement but it softend the red, speedball carving medium. Scraps pieces of 1/2 to 3/4 inch pine also works great for backs.  This remindes me, I should put a couple of stamp construction photos in my web site.

I use good old "Liquid Nails." You can find it in small tubes in addition
to the large home building caulk gun driven ones. It is MADE to stick in a
wide range of temperatures and to a wide range of materials.

Another good cement is Barge Cement. It also comes in tubes and works
for many materials.
